Back To The Starting Line
I’m back where I began today! This time last year I had decided to start this whole website, picked a start date, built the site and began writing. Back then I was getting a jump on future posts and had a bunch banked up before I ever went live.
That means we’re coming up on the first anniversary of the site, I’m working on the post for that day slowly but surely.
Today is the new forest marathon and Sara is running the 10K. Last year was her first organised run in years and the first real test of her back and the recovery she had made since her injury in 2012. That was just a 5K and she smashed it. She did another not long after and since the start of things year has moved on to the 10K runs instead.
She wasn’t sure she was going to be able to do it last night as she’s been suffering with a lot of pain and swelling in her knees and has been working like crazy. But this morning Sara got up and was feeling not just a bit better physically but she didn’t want to miss out on doing the run today so she went for a short jog to see how her legs were holding up and was feeling alright. So I got my ass out of bed and here we are!
I said at the start of the year that I intended to try a 5K this year sometime, probably this one... that did t happen.
I feel like a bit crap about it to be honest, between January and March I was running every day and really enjoying it! Then I got a nasty cold and it wiped me out for a week and a half where I really couldn’t run. I went a couple of times after that but then that was when I basically had a month plus of gout attacks and couldn’t even stand let alone run. I haven’t done anything since then... I keep thinking about it but it’s having the discipline to actually get out there and do it!
I’m not a natural runner or athlete of any sort, if I’m going to run I need to slowly build myself up. Sara isn’t like that, she’s barely done any running in prep for this one but is going to smash it regardless. The last run she did, her first 10K, she hadn’t kept up with her training programme at all and had never done any practice runs of that distance but she still managed to do it in under an hour!
Maybe I’ll get back into it at some point, I’d like to. Either way I do plan on doing some sort of regular exercise soon!
Anyway, the NFL is back today, the Colts are on at six and the Cowboys game for Sara is at half nine! The plan after the run and some lunch is to play War of the Ring until football starts!
I suppose I should head over to the finish line soon, I’ve been writing for a while and my wife is a speedy runner!
