Disney+

Last week Bob Iger, the big boss at Disney had his regular investor conference call and we got a few more details about the streaming service they're launching next year, now officially called Disney+.

It's designed to be their answer to Netflix and to a lesser extent Prime Video and all the other streaming platforms out there.

The details of what was announced are readily available online but I wanted to talk about some shows I would love to see them develop in the future.

Let's start where I usually do; in a galaxy far, far away.

We already have The Mandalorian live action series from Jon Favearu in production and it was recently announced that Pedro Pascal from Game of Thrones and Narcos is the lead. I'm looking forward to this. It looks like it could be a cool Star Wars western with some of the grander ideas of a GOT if they decide they want to go that way.

Also announced was a 'spy-thriller' starring Diego Luna who will be reprising the role of Cassian Andor from Rogue One. This could be a really cool early days of the Rebellion story and I hope we see not just other side characters from that movie return but other characters who would be around at that point in time as well.

I think it's really interesting that they seem to be diving in head first with live action series for Star Wars and my hope is that some of the ideas they had for movies, that they've subsequently squashed, are finding new life and are being fleshed out here.

What else would I like to see though? Well, my stock answer remains true; Rogue Squadron. Set it after Return of the Jedi, have it be about the pilots in the Rebellion as it is transitioning into the New Republic. Imperial hold-outs, recapturing planets, all that good stuff.

There is a strong chance that these series might be following the same format as the Marvel shows they've announced as well in that they will be limited series.

On that note, let's talk about Marvel.

We know that we're getting a Loki mini series with Tom Hiddleston coming back, a Scarlet Witch series with Elizabeth Olsen and while not confirmed yet, I wouldn't be surprised to see Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the other shows cancelled by Netflix find their way over to Disney+ in some capacity.

Now, here is what I want to see... All these limited series, put them under a banner title of Marvel Team-Up and make it an anthology with each season focussing on a different cast of characters all within the MCU. You can easily pair Loki up with any of the Asgardian characters we've not seen much of on the big screen. Scarlet Witch is always more interesting with Vision around and Luke Cage and Iron Fist have built in history as Heroes For Hire. If the Black Widow movie never gets off the ground I'd also like to see her paired up with Hawkeye and to see more of their backstory together.

I would also love it if the casting rumours are true for Avengers 4 and we are getting a time jump. If that ends up being the case then Young Avengers is a must. It sounds hokey for anyone just reading the title for the first time but the original run of comics was fantastic. It introduced us to Scarlet Witch and Visions kids; Wiccan and Speed, a shapeshifter who goes by Hulkling, Kate Bishop who takes on the mantle of Hawkeye and Cassie Lang who steps up to replace her dad as Ant Man. You could easily bring in this group of teens and have them interacting with their counterparts in the movie and then spin them off into a series of their own. One of the last major Marvel villains we've yet to see on screen is Kang the Conquerer and if they've been saving him for the Young Avengers I am all for it. He is integral in their origin in the books.
