This show has no damn right being as good as it is!
I've been catching up on stuff I missed from this year and yesterday evening I decided to check out a couple of episodes of the YouTube Original sequel to the 1984 film The Karate Kid.
The show picks up in present day and follows Johnny Lawrence, the bad guy bully kid from the original movie as he is a washed up bum living in a shitty apartment still in Reseda while Danny LaRusso is doing very well for himself and operates a chain for car dealerships.
Things happen and, much like other legacy-sequels such as Creed and The Force Awakens, the events of the original are echoed in a new, modern way while building off of them and following the older characters.
Ralph Macchio and William Zabka return in with roles and really appear to be having a lot of fun with it. Zabka in particular is excellent as Johnny is trying to adjust to the more... sensitive nature of kids in 2018 as opposed to '84 when he reestablishes the Cobra Kai dojo he once trained at.
I only started yesterday but there's a good chance I'll have finished the season by tomorrow morning, it's really entertaining, and I wasn't ever even a big fan of the original movie.
Definitely check it out if you haven't yet.
