Tag Teaming Activity Rings
I’m mostly taking a break from writing tonight, I’m quite happy with my output last week and don’t feel too bad about having a more relaxed evening to myself tonight.
I’m not going to leave you completely contentless though, I’ve got a funny, cute, whatever you want to call it story.
A couple of weeks ago when we went to Brighton I forgot to take my watch charger. I was sure that it would die during the second day and prevent me from closing the three activity rings that it tracks. It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I’ve managed to close all three every single day this year, actually stretching back since mid-December. It’s something I’m really proud of and I was really hoping to get to a ‘Perfect Year.’
The rings are ‘Active Calories’ which you set your daily goal at the start of the week, mine is currently 660, which I comfortably do each day. ‘Exercise Minutes’ which is closed if you do thirty minutes of exercise or activity that raises your heart rate enough to count, I smash that usually getting well over a hundred minutes. The final ring is ‘Standing Hours’ which is closed by standing and being active for at least one minute in an hour, you need twelve to finish the ring, never a problem.
Anyway, I kept an eye on my rings the first day in Brighton and as soon as I closed my rings I turned the watch off completely in order to save power and fired it up the next day. I had enough battery to make progress through the day until I got home and could pop it on charge before doing my work outs. Success! The streak is alive.
Yesterday I was heading up to London and did something I never do! I completely forgot to put it on before setting off. I think it’s because it was charging somewhere different and I was trying not to disturb Rae from having a much deserved lie in.
I sent her a message in case she woke up before we hit the road up to Richmond but we were already on the tube by the time she got it. I was resigned to having lost my streak already at this point, I was gutted but wasn’t going to let it ruin my day. Then Rae offered to wear it for the day as she was going to be going for some bike rides and be out and about during the day regardless. It was such a sweet thing to do and really meant a lot.
Some people might see it as cheating but I was active in London and wouldn’t have had a problem closing my rings had I just remembered to put my watch on before leaving.
When I got back to town I went and picked it up and bought some flowers to say thank you. She’d kicked ass! Closing the exercise ring already, getting plenty of stand hours in that as long as I didn’t sit on my ass for the rest of the day I’d easily close and made more than enough progress through the active calories that I had no problem finishing off all three with my regular exercise bike half hour when I got home.
It may not sound like much, but it meant the world to me.
Huh, I guess I wrote more than I was expecting to. Cool! That often happens when I say I’m not going to write much. The picture is from last night when the CO-OP we popped into had cameras on all the self-service kiosks. Naturally we stood there pulling silly faces at it.
