Taking In The Trash
I’ve been really diving back into some nineties trashy teen tv this past couple of weeks.
I don’t know what spurred it on, but I saw that Dawson’s Creek was on Prime so for some unknown reason I decided to watch a couple of episodes.
I had fond memories of watching it weekend mornings when it was in reruns or just finishing up its initial on E4. It was on late enough in the morning that it would usually be on when I woke up after a night djing. I didn’t watch it religiously, but I caught enough to know the characters and get a general idea of what was going on.
I was going to watch from the start at first but, well, the 1998 hair cuts were too bad so I started watching from season two. It’s trash tv, I don’t think I’ll struggle to keep up.
The show is the epitome of teen drama in the late nineties. Every cliche you can think of is played up, but hidden below the surface is actually a pretty well written show that is kind of timeless.
I don’t know how much I’ll bother watching but at the moment it’s a bit of silly background tv to have on while I’m cooking for playing a dumb game on my phone while chilling out in an evening.
It does feel ridiculous to be watching a twenty year old teen drama when there is still so much peak tv to catch up on, but what can ya do.
