The summer blockbuster hit of 2021.
I’ve been pretty much expecting it for a couple of weeks now but today I got the phone call from work confirming that my furlough is being extended until at least the end of June.
I had purposefully not put a lot of thought into it until recently. One of the benefits of my job is the ability to completely switch off from it when I’m not there so until we hit mid month I’ve not given it much of a thought.
But it was getting closer to the time I was due to be going back and with the current state of the world I had my reservations about if that was a good idea or not.
On a practical level there wasn’t a lot of point until at least retail was back in full swing, most likely not until hospitality is too based on the contracts we have. There’s also of course the element of safety and responsibility, luckily it seems that some combination of all of those elements has been seen by the company as well and they’ve made the decision to extend, we’ll see for how long but I believe it will be on a month by month basis as things start to reopen and systems start to come back online.
What does that mean for me? Well I guess it means more of the same really doesn’t it?
The few people that I told earlier all had the same question; how do I feel about it?
The answer gave was that I’m happy about it. I think it’s the right call and I have a level of relief about it.
I know a lot of people have struggled throughout lockdown and while I’ve definitely had ups and downs, for the most part I’ve handled it pretty well. I made a list of things to do to keep me busy and I’ve slowly worked my way through them.
I’m near the end of that list now even though some of the things on it are ongoing projects and things to do I knew I should start to think about what else to do in this extended free time.
So I’ve picked up a new hobby and have been reading through a book about drawing buildings and cities. I have always had next to no artistic talent when it comes to illustrating or sketching but have been a big admirer of the craft in all its forms. I’m at a point now where I am happy to put some time in to learn this stuff and see how I get on with it without worrying if it’s any good or what other people think. Much like this website, it’s not for anyone else other than myself!
Don’t expect to see me posting stuff regularly or maybe even ever, but it’s a fun and creative way to spend some time each day.
I’ve got to take my car to the garage in the morning to get a bit of welding done. I don’t think it’ll be too much of a big job, I’m hoping not anyway. Typically I also have a couple of packages arriving tomorrow too; the frames for some art I ordered a while ago and my new mic for the podcast project that is gearing up and taking up a lot of my creative brain functions. Watch this space for more info on that possibly as soon as next week!
