Podcasts While At Home
I listen to a lot of podcasts, I’ve talked about it before how I structure a lot of my regular working day around the podcasts I’m listening to. It’s always a weird adjustment for me whenever I have time off work and has been for years, no matter what the reason.
That was obviously the case for the first bit of time while on furlough too. I wasn’t listening to nearly as much as I wasn’t in the van or otherwise preoccupied doing something else while listening.
I prioritised the shows I wanted to listen to and make sure I kept on top of the few that release most frequently. I would listen to Star Wars Minute for instance while I was doing my weights and crunches portion of my work out. It releases daily and isn’t too long so I can find time for it. Other shows I would listen to in chunks while doing other chores around the house; washing up, laundry, cleaning, mowing the lawn… all of these have become things I look forward to doing and do more regularly because they are good podcast time.
I’ve also listened whenever I have left the house, since the weather has been so nice and as good extra form of exercise I have been walking to my local shop if I only need to pick up a few things. Thats a good half an hour round trip, longer if I have to wait in line outside; more podcast time, and the occasions I’ve popped to a supermarket for myself and if I’m helping anyone else out I’ve almost always had a wait outside.
If I’m feeling particularly lazy I’ll play a mindless video game that doesn’t have any plot or dialogue I care about and put an episode on at the same time.
Some shows I had to skip episodes of or let build up a little bit, but for the most part it was okay, the NFL is in the offseason now and while the draft is right around the corner and they’re still operating under the assumption there will be a season come September, I’m getting more and more skeptical that large stadium sporting events will be back that soon and so I’ve found that listening to Around The NFL has become a far lower priority for me at the moment.
I’ve been overall pretty happy with my podast consumption and the ability to stay on top of most things. I don’t have the satisfaction of being able to get through everything each day like I normally would, but I’ve been able to catch up on most fairly regularly and only skip a small number each week.
The only thing I have missed is my audiobook time. I paused my audible subscription the day I was furloughed as I knew there was no chance I would get to listen to much and I’ve got plenty to keep me going for the time being.
I’m reading more physical books, be it on my kindle or actual printed media, but I normally supplement that with a healthy amount of audiobook listening that I have barely done any of lately.
If thats the biggest thing I’ve had to sacrifice so far though, I’m doing alright and can’t complain!
Have a good day y’all. I’ll be back tomorrow as always.
