The Last Of Us Part 2

Today has been a day of mostly relaxing. I said to myself while lying in bed this morning after waking up that as it was the weekend and I’d been going fairly hard all week that I could have a relaxed workout today, maybe just do the bike. I was three quarters of the way through my full routine before I even realised and at that point just carried on and finished up.

It did mean that by the time that was done I could mostly chill without feeling like I should do more.

I put up the security light first though.

Most of the rest of the day has consisted of watching a full play through of The Last Of Us Part 2.

I was a big fan of the first game on the previous generation of the console and the buzz around this long anticipated sequel has been palpable.

I don’t have a PS4 and as this game is exclusive to that system my options were to get that system, which would be highly irresponsible and frankly pointless as the next generation of consoles are coming out this holiday season anyway, or watch a run through on YouTube.

Naughty Dog, the developer, are known for making extremely cinematic games so I knew it wouldn’t be too much of an issue and they’ve gone above and beyond with this latest entry genuinely blurring the line between video game and movie narrative.

After about an hour I knew I wasn’t going to have any problem simply watching it played as opposed to controlling it myself.

There is no commentary, no reloading after a death, the player has clearly been through the game already and is doing this run for the video. They are thorough in exploring everywhere but not to the excessive level of breaking immersion.

I’ve enjoyed it immensely.

I did also play some Marvel Champions while watching and paused for a while to play some games and do some fun script reads with Ed and Rae this evening.

Overall it has been a solid, relaxed Saturday!
